Description: This plan is drawn on vellum and dates from 1752. It records the plans and ground rents of many individual dwellings in Great and Little Ormond Street, Red Lyon Street, Lamb's Conduit Street and Millman Street. The plan is flanked by corresponding tables listing the annual rents and expiration dates of the leases. The title and scale bar are presented in decorative cartouches and the compass rose is treated in the same ornametal fashion with gold detailing. In many of the dwelling outlines ''peppercorn'' is written under the name of the occupant, referring to a low rent. Below the title is the following inscription: A Lease of the Undermenshoned ground was granted to Dr Nick Barton by the ffeofees of Rugby School for 50: y.rs at 50:P ann. And some-time after the Dr. Assigns ye same to S.r W.m Milman Kt. And in 1720 by a decree in Chanceryye. Ffeofees did Grant to S.r W.m a [cant read] term of 43 y: from the expira:n of ye beformenshond Lease at 60P ann which sd. last lease will expire at X mass 1779.
