Description
Pocket plans were made popular by publisher Thomas Bowles in the 1730s. This later map is coloured to highlight the old London Wall and the parks and open spaces. This map includes a list of Hackney Coach Fares. The development of turnpike roads from the 1750s onwards led to a steady increase of wheeled vehicles such as the Hackney Coach, which eventually made watermen redundant
