1 : 9000000 Esta es una adaptación de la empresa Homann Heirs (también es conocida como Homann Erben, o herederos de Homann, en castellano) del mapa Carte de la Terre Ferme, du Perou, du Bresil, et du Pays des Amazones de Guillaume Del'Isle, originalmente publicado en Paris en 1703. La región amazónica aparece como “Terra Amazonum”, un lugar distinto y diferenciable de los territorios vecinos españoles (Tierra Firme, Peru, Paraguay) y portugueses (Brasil). La empresa Homann Heirs fue creada tras la muerte de Johann Baptiste Homann (1664-1724), famoso Geógrafo del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico. A mediados del siglo XVIII la empresa estaba dirigida por el geógrafo Johann Michael Franz y por el grabador Johann Georg Ebersberg hijastro de Johann Baptiste Homann. La Terre Ferme et le Perou avec le Pays des Amazones et le Bresil

Nicolas de Fer (1646-1720) fue un cartógrafo muy reconocido de finales del siglo XVIII y principios del siglo XX. Fue nombrado geógrafo del Dauphin de Francia en 1691, y del rey Felipe V de España en 1702. La llegada de los Borbones a España incrementó el interés francés por el “País de las Amazonas”, esa región desconocida y casi llena de mitos para la mayoría de los europeos, en el corazón de América del Sur. El mapa presenta en puntillado varias de las incógnitas hidrográficas. Dos de los misterios que más intrigaban a los científicos europeos del siglo XVIII era la existencia –o no- del Lago Parime y de la ciudad de Manoa, por un lado y de la conexión fluvial entre los Ríos Amazonas y Orinoco. Este mapa presenta la conexión entre los dos ríos, descarta la existencia del lago Parime, señalando que un valle rodeados de montañas pareció como un lago a diversos viajeros (“ce Fond de Mont. a paru a quelq. voyag. comme un lac”), y mantiene la ciudad de Manoa. A lo largo del siglo XVIII diversos viajeros como Charles Marie de La Condamine y luego Alexander von Humboldt, recorrerán estos parajes buscando zanjar la controversia. Fer, Nicolas de (1646-1720)
