Description: .Ancaster was built on the site of an ancient Celtic settlement, Causennae. It became an important Roman military site due to its proximity to the Ermine Street. This Roman road, which forms the western boundary of this part of Lincolnshire, was built as a supply route for the Roman armies during their occupation of Britain. Ermine Street began at Chichester in West Sussex and ended in York.
