Zentralbibliothek Zürich is hosting a special event presenting its citizen-science campaign “Einzigartige Landkarten der ZB: Prunkvolles und Geheimes”. The initiative invites volunteers to help georeference around 1,200 digitized historical maps — from medieval portolan charts to confidential military maps.
During the event, visitors will get an exclusive look at selected highlights from the collection, including a 1321 portolan chart, 17th-century territorial maps, and previously restricted military cartography. The evening also includes a presentation of the project followed by a discussion and an apéro.
For map enthusiasts, historians, and digital-heritage researchers, this is a unique opportunity to explore the depth of ZB’s map archive and contribute to a collaborative georeferencing effort.
More details and registration are available on the ZB website.
